DUTIES

• Prepare both standalone and consolidated financials for Global Refuge
• Oversight and management of the accounting team operations at headquarters
• Directly supervise Senior Accountant; indirectly supervise all other members of the accounting team; keeping Controller abreast of ongoing issues and challenges
• Supervise Senior Accountant responsible for revenue recordation, treasury management, LCC bookkeeping, and many other recurring monthly activities
• Assist the Accounting Manager for Subsidiaries and Special Projects in field operations ensuring there are documented procedures, controls, and processes in place; maintain field office accounting manual.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and account analysis timely for all subsidiary accounts.
• In coordination with other accountants and the Controller, facilitate and manage the month-end close and reporting process.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual audit, 990 tax filings, and coordination with independent auditors.
• Lead the preparation of all internal and external financial statements, budget to actual reports, and financial reports for donors to subsidiaries and various lines of business. Ensure internal financial reports are meaningful, concise, timely, useful, and consistent.
• In collaboration with the Controller, work on the development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information to appraise operating results of GR programs, and affiliates/partners.
• In coordination with the Controller, support streamlining of operations by offering new ideas, and simplifying procedures.
• Ensure the optimal use of technology by becoming an expert in the accounting system. Prophix Budgeting and Reporting Tool, Salesforce, and other applications as needed
• Perform other duties in GR and subsidiaries that may be needed to ensure smooth and uninterrupted accounting and financial operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA preferred
• Seven or more years of experience in finance and accounting with increasingly expanded responsibility. Two or more years of audit experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience working in a highly diverse environment and in an organization with varying levels of operating complexities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead month-end and annual close involving multiple entities (parent company and subsidiaries)
• Experience managing multiple organizations consolidated entities, and locations is a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of US government grant-making rules and regulations required as well as GAAP required.
• Ability to anticipate priorities and organize work to be responsive to the deliverables required of the team.
• Highly knowledgeable in internal controls and process flow. Proficient in using general ledger and non-profit accounting systems and software.
• Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills that present complex financial information in an accessible way for non-financial people, as illustrated through narratives, PowerPoints, graphs, and spreadsheets; demonstrated ability to communicate options for process improvements that align with the goals of the organization. Excellent Excel skills are required; solid Access and Visio skills are preferred.
