General Description:
The Background Investigator will play a critical role in supporting the personnel security program by conducting federal background investigations and preparing comprehensive reports in compliance with Federal Investigative Standards, laws, and agency regulations. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding sensitive information.
Major Duties:
Conduct Investigations: Perform federal background investigations, gathering relevant information and preparing thorough reports of investigation in accordance with Federal Investigative Standards, laws, and agency regulations.
Subject Interviews: Conduct in-person and/or phone interviews with individuals to obtain detailed information about their background and character, following agency guidelines.
Information Gathering: Obtain and verify information from a variety of personal and record sources to produce reports that encompass all pertinent facts about an individual’s background and character.
Travel Requirements: Travel may be required to conduct interviews or obtain records, with an expected travel radius of 30-50 miles from the assigned location.
Timely Completion: Ensure that all background investigations and reports are completed within specified timelines, meeting agency deadlines and standards.
Safeguarding Information: Properly safeguard sensitive information, including Privacy Act Protected Information, Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Classified National Security Information.
Professional Qualifications/Skills:
Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain a current Top Secret personnel security clearance.
Experience: Minimum of five (5), preferably seven (7), years of experience in conducting investigations.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate reports.
Work Schedule: Flexibility may be required to meet the demands of the investigation process.
Location: Washington, D.C., with travel in and around the assigned location as needed.
