**THIS IS A WORKING DENTAL SUPERVISOR POSITION**
Purpose: This position works to integrate departments and complete assigned tasks. Provides leadership to dental department support staff to promote excellent customer service to patients and providers. Works closely with immediate supervisor to assure the efficient operation of the dental clinic. The Dental Supervisor operates as an effective team member with dental clinic care providers and other front and back-office support staff to provide quality dental treatment support, oral health education, instrument repair and sterilization, facilities and equipment maintenance, and supply inventory & purchasing, in accordance with PHC standards. In addition, this position schedules and supervises assigned staff, provides ongoing performance feedback and acts as a key communicator between the clinical staff and their immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operations/Quality

- Acts as the single point of contact for department operations and delegates accordingly.
- Plans and manages the daily functions of the Dental Department.
- Delegates, assigns, and coordinates work, ensuring an efficient workflow that achieves the departmental mission and objectives. Ensures on-going coverage is provided for all support staff, filling in as needed.
- Manages Provider schedules to ensure scheduling guidelines are followed, schedule is full, and daily targets are met
- Ensure appropriate ordering of supplies and management of inventory levels.
- In collaboration with the Patient Access Supervisor, works to facilitate patient access to appropriate medical and specialty providers
- Follows PHC's policy to resolve patient complaints.
- Participates in quality improvement (QI) efforts by utilizing dashboards, tracking tools and providing quality reporting data monthly.
- Consults with clinicians and QI teams on Continuous Quality Improvement activities such as chart reviews and accurate and complete documentation and coding, providing technical support and staff education, as necessary. Ensures the gathering of QI data from clinical department.
- Leads or co-leads daily huddles.
- Facilitates - monthly staff meetings to support communications, deliver training, and ensure compliance with PHC policies and administrative processes.
- Responsible for effective use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) including oversight of staff usage, coordination of training, and patient flow.
- Promotes effective and appropriate use of integrated health services at Promise as part of a "Patient Centered Medical Home" (PCMH) model of care.
- Provides leadership for the development of policies and procedures designed to guide activities, ensuring that the site/service line operates in a consistent, financially solvent, and high-quality manner.
- In collaboration with immediate supervisor, provides consistent communication to leadership team, ensuring that information, reports, and materials are provided to clearly describe activities and progress toward agreed upon objectives.

- Responsible for oversight and management of day-to-day operations and initiating corrective action where appropriate and necessary
Human Resources
- Ensures that the department is always appropriately and adequately staffed
- Works in collaboration with HR to fill staff vacancies. screens candidates and conducts interviews. Makes hiring recommendations to HR
- Ensures a smooth onboarding of new staff members.
- Manages departmental scheduling, reviews, and approves timesheets for payroll. Approves Paid Time Off as requested. Approves overtime, as necessary.
- Manages dental assistants, conducts performance evaluations, and implements timely Performance Improvement Plans as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing feedback that recognizes, identifies, and supports when improvement is recommended and when excellence is achieved to team members regarding productivity, quality of patient care, operational assessment, customer service and teamwork.
- Addresses concerns and resolves problems within the department
- Responsible for working with employees to ensure that each employee understands their job description, the desired results associated with their work, and the resources available to achieve the results. Related to this is also the responsibility of training and developing employees to ensure they can perform their duties.
- Conducts new employee job-specific orientation. Identifies and recommends other training needs of staff and makes recommendations for training needs to immediate supervisor.
- Solves daily operational problems and seeks counsel from their immediate supervisor for more complex problems.

Finance
- Utilizes programs and policies which will assist patients in meeting financial obligations for treatment.
- Works with immediate supervisor to manage revenue, adhere to provider productivity expectations, expenses, and staffing to ensure successful operations and financial stability.
Clinical Duties
- Assists dental teams to gather outcomes information following regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Reviews department reports with supervisor, including reviewing trends and patterns.
- Tracks lab invoices and approves timely payment.
- Monitors equipment and assures proper use, testing, cleaning, and maintenance is completed in accordance with the manufacturer or OSHA
Min. Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position requires an individual who has the ability to work independently, is able to work under pressure, is analytical and has excellent problem-solving skills. The ability to respect the confidentiality of patient information while performing job duties. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.

Physical Demands:
- Work may require sitting or standing for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in the dental office.
- Involves frequent contact with people.
- Interactions with others are frequent and interruptive. Work may be stressful at times.
- Work schedules may be changed to accommodate departmental/facility needs.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Graduate from an accredited Dental Assisting/Dental Hygienist program, strongly preferred but not required.
- Associate degree in a related field preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret data.
- Ability to use Microsoft products required (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Experience working in an EMR system (NextGen), strongly preferred but not required.
- Current CPR certificate required.
- Customer Service experience working with general public.
- At least 5 years of experience in a dental office (front or back) required.
- Supervisory/management experience required.
- Knowledge of established infection control techniques, concepts, and principles of practice.
- Valid driver's license, valid insurance, and transportation to other clinics as needed.
Language Skills:
English required. Bilingual in English/Spanish language desirable. Ability to read & interpret documents, reports & correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups and/or individuals.
