Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) exists to break the cycle of poverty and inequity through education, job training, and employment. OBT’s programs operate out of multiple locations and serve as a bridge to economic opportunity for youth, individuals, and families in underserved communities. Through various sector-based pathways, we offer programming that extends from high school equivalency programming to industry-certified training. OBT is funded through a mixture of government contracts, corporate and foundation grants and private contributions.
Job Summary The AELP helps adults who are 18 years or older build a foundation for success. The program , which includes instruction in adult basic education (ABE), English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and high school equivalency (HSE) exam preparation is designed to improve basic reading, writing, numeracy, and English language skills; and assist adults in completing high school; prepare them for successful transition to postsecondary education and work.
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the passionate Instructor leads classes and provides administrative support for the program.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare for and facilitate in-person and online classes as scheduled in collaboration with the Program Director.
- Schedule and maintain records of intake and testing appointments.
- Pre-screen requests for program services and make external referrals if appropriate.
- Assist students with completing TASC applications in a timely manner, including gathering required documents.
- Enter participant information into Salesforce and other databases (i.e. Googlesheets, PTS and CWE outcomes for AELP).
- Organize and assist with TABE pre-testing and post-testing.
- Assist students with completing TASC applications in a timely manner, including gathering required documents.
- Evaluate TABE results for outcomes and gains.
- Maintain accurate Excel spreadsheets to track student attendance for AELP program; make student retention phone calls based on daily attendance.
- Produce timely, accurate, routine and uniformly high-quality reports.
- Maintain student files in preparation for contractual audits.
- Provide internal and external referrals to students.
- Assist AELP staff with administrative/clerical duties and support other programming tasks as necessary.
Education and Experience - Minimum of 3 years of experience in adult education .
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic performance.
- Must possess a friendly, outgoing and professional personality and be able to maintain a high degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel required.
- Must have an excellent attendance record.
- Show a commitment to quality and excellence.
- Must be detail oriented and learn quickly.
- Must continually seek new tools, techniques, job training and learning opportunities.

Compensation $40/hour
