Job Description

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks an Intake Paralegal to work in its downtown Atlanta office. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law.

Responsibilities: 

• Through 2024, the primary responsibility of the Paralegal will be telephone intake for the General Law Unit and backup telephone intake for the Family Law Unit. After that, the Paralegal will perform case intake/management including conducting initial client intakes and interviews.
• Creating appointments for attorneys; entering data into and retrieving data from our database; gathering, reviewing, organizing, and scanning documents; assisting clients with completing pro se forms, attending legal clinics; and providing
  community resources to clients.

Qualifications:

• A degree or certificate in paralegal studies is preferred but not required. 
• Applicants must possess excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills; be resourceful and adaptable; be able to work in a team and with a diverse population; be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, and have the
  willingness to learn other software. The volume of calls can be quite heavy, and callers are often very
  emotional. 
• Accordingly, the paralegal must be patient, compassionate, even-tempered, and have good people and problem-solving skills. Prior experience working with low-income people is highly preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.

Salary and Benefits:

• The salary is $34,500+ depending upon experience. Salaries currently increase annually based on a set salary scale. We recently engaged a compensation consultant to review our current structure and make recommendations for improvement. 
• The program provides generous fringe benefits including 18 paid holidays (in 2024), 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health (including optional dental and vision coverage), life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and a voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match.
  Through 2024, this position offers a hybrid work schedule allowing the Paralegal to work 2 days remotely each
  week subject to the approval of management and a probationary employment period. After that, this position
  will be fully remote with the exception of training. This position may be eligible for Public Service Loan
  Forgiveness through the U.S. Department of Education.
