The budgeted hiring salary/target range for this position is $22.55 hourly, with placement based on skills, knowledge, and experience.



Position Summary



The University of California, Los Angeles provides approximately 22,000 parking spaces to accommodate the needs of a growing community of 80,000 staff, faculty, students, patients and visitors. All business units within UCLA Commuter & Parking Services work together to develop innovative commuter and parking customer service solutions and technologies to deliver a seamless customer experience. Under the general direction of the Parking Enforcement (PE) Supervisor(s), enforce the regulations of the California Vehicle Code, the Los Angeles Municipal Code, and the Parking Rules and Regulations of UCLA, in all areas of the campus and medical areas. Routinely patrol various beats from a variety of vehicles including truck, car, or on foot, and respond to campus emergencies during regular business hours and after hours. Issue parking citations and warning notices, provide customer service, initiate the impound or towing process, perform corrective maintenance on parking control equipment, operate automatic license plate recognition (LPR) technology, and provide traffic direction for special events/construction projects as needed. Parking Enforcement operates seven days per week, fifteen hours per day, utilizing both day and night shifts.

Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications



  • 1. Ability to independently work any shift, standing and walking an average of 9 hours per 10 hour shift, or 7 hours per 8 hour shift, and walking an average of 8 to 12 linear miles daily over hilly terrain, around parked cars in both covered and uncovered parking facilities, outside year round in inclement and clement weather, using established foul weather gear provided by the department, throughout a 24-hour period as mandated by management. (Required)
  • 2. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, carry/lift objects such as parking barricades weighing up to 50 pounds. (Required)
  • 3. Ability to hear and understand ordinary dispatch communications received over a 2-way radio and to use appropriate radio language. (Required)
  • 4. Ability to see permit numbers and VIN (metal plate) numbers sufficient to read these accurately in moderate light with the aid of a flashlight. (Required)
  • 5. Ability to draft descriptive daily log reports and write neat, accurate and concise citations and impound forms which include such facts as time, place, direction, campus setting, vehicle description, permit status, and the specific enforcement process (Required)
  • 6. Ability to read, learn, interpret, analyze, retain and adhere to all University of California Parking and Police Rules and Regulations and handle violations on the basis of this knowledge and use judgment to resolve issues in the best interest of Transportation. (Required)
  • 7. Oral communication skill sufficient to effectively relate details surrounding a citation or impound in a court of law or to customers, using appropriate tone of voice, vocabulary, and clarity of expression. (Required)
  • 8. Ability to interact with persons of diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds for the purpose of obtaining information from and conveying information to staff members, Parking Services program participants and other visitors. Interpersonal skills to carry out all duties with courtesy, patience and tact, representing the University in a spirit of helpfulness, to ensure service excellence. (Required)
  • 9. Demonstrated skill in operating a personal computer utilizing Microsoft Office software programs and ability to use automatic license plate reader technology to aid in the enforcement of parking rules and regulations. (Required)
