Brief Role Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Produce Category Manager to drive profitable sales growth within the produce category in our region. This role requires collaboration across various functions including Sales, Supply Chain, and Revenue Management, as well as coordination across different entities. As a category expert, you will provide training, product information, regulatory guidance, and market cost guidance to support both internal and external customers.

Primary Responsibilities:
Category Strategy

Align with produce teams to execute strategies
Identify category development opportunities and coordinate with sales teams to propose new business
Ensure compliance and proper support of produce operations
Analyze data and market insights to understand consumer needs and wants
Research competitors and suggest appropriate pricing
Manage site-specific market cost decisions weekly
Collaborate with regional management to provide customer-specific pricing
Provide feedback on strategies, including marketing materials to improve sales
Provide the planning team with forecasts for product demand trends
Coordinate new customer onboarding activities
Address the needs and concerns of key contacts within the region
Assortment Management

Provide product assortment and SKU rationalization recommendations
Ensure product availability
Design exit strategies for unsuccessful products
Category Training

Support sales through business reviews and customer insights with targeted training and education
Schedule and manage category sales training for Sales Consultants
Communicate market conditions, product quality and availability, new items, and applications to the sales force
Product Quality / Quality Control

Develop and monitor SOPs to ensure pick locations are checked daily
Collaborate with Operations and Food Safety teams
Work cross-functionally with QA and Operations to generate PDNs, ensure accuracy, timely completion, and submission, and track and settle resulting claims
Manage market adherence to GAP/GMP compliance
Mitigate Expense / Shrink

Work with inventory control to manage expiration dating
Collaborate with Quality Assurance leads and Operations and Transportation Management
Ensure all inbound products are inspected thoroughly
Collaborate with QA and Product Support Advisors to ensure quality and integrity of all products
Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Master's degree is a plus
3+ years of management/professional experience required (5+ years preferred)
Significant produce industry experience preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills required
Strong Excel skills preferred
Ability to implement innovative strategies to maximize sales and profit while driving customer loyalty
