Job Description

Objective:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for evaluating and acquiring raw materials. This position will be responsible for managing the existing supply base and identifying new and innovative sources, services, and solutions to meet the needs of the business. Other responsibilities will be communicating with suppliers and internal stakeholders, negotiating pricing, monitoring, and tracking purchase orders and deliveries, and supporting other Purchasing functions.

• Creating, executing, and monitoring purchase orders.
• Analysis of supply & demand against inventory to determine re-order points, max/min inventory levels, lead times, and safety stock.
• Communicating and negotiating with suppliers on cost and delivery. 
• Management of non-inventoried stock items. 
• Procurement of high-cost materials in large volumes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills - ability to effectively communicate across varying levels of personnel.
• Ability to multi-task, handling multiple suppliers and processes daily.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow a process without deviating. 
• Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Excel. Beginner level of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Relevant experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Navision 2016, Business Central, and Smartsheet are beneficial.
• Knowledge of silo, railcar, and bulk truck management is beneficial.

Responsibilities:

• Acquiring a wide variety of raw materials, supplies, and services relating to and /or supporting the company's manufacturing environment.
• Process purchase requisitions, obtain and negotiate quotes, and evaluate bids.
• Manage commodities from the creation of purchase orders to invoicing the supplier.
• Coordinate purchasing activities with other departments to maintain established inventory levels.
• Develop new suppliers and vendors, and continually monitor their performance.
• Manage the movement of railcars and the filling of silos.
